Green mango chutney recipe by Ritha Pai Prabhu, Dubai, UAE
I remember the taste of green mangoes with salt and red chilli powder which we used to have in our childhood days.
Luckily for us, the mango trees in our grandmother’s garden would bear fruit during our summer vacation and we could pluck the green mangoes, (when the elders had their siesta in the afternoon), which otherwise would be well gaurded as they turned to sweet fruit.
This is a traditional Kerala dish, a chutney made of coconut and green mangoes.
Green mango pieces (preferably with skin on)-1 medium
Coconut Scrapings-1/2 cup
Green Chillies-4nos (I used small hot Thai Chillies)
Shallots- 5or 6 nos
Fresh Grated Ginger-1/2 inch piece
Salt to Taste
Lime Juice To Taste- Optional (if mango is not sour enough)
Grind all the ingredients to form a smooth paste.
Serve with hot rice or gruel.
