Get medium sized chicken pieces, wash well, add ginger garlic paste, little red chilli powder, little garam masala powder, turmeric powder, salt, lemon juice mix well and keep to marinate for 20 mins.
In a kadai heat up oil, add whole spices (chakkar phool-1, cloves-4/5, cinnamaon- 1 inch, cardamom- 4, chopped garlic, coriander seeds-1 tsp, grated coconut- 3 tsp, sesame seeds- 1 tsp, little cumin seeds, poppy seeds- 1tsp preferably in the same order otherwise smaller masala may burn), chopped onions and red chillies. fry on low flame till masalas change colour. Now add chopped tomato and fry for a while. Let the masala cool. After cooling grind to a fine paste. In a kadai heat little oil, add the ground masala, cook till masala starts boiling. Now add the marinated chicken pieces and salt to taste.( Red chilly powder can be added for very spicy gravy). Add water if needed, cook covered till chicken is cooked and garnish with fresh coriander leaves and a red chilly.
