Recipe to prepare mangalore style Bangude Kajipu

Authentic MANGALORE STYLE IDI BANGUDE KAJIPU ( WHOLE MACKAREL CURRY )

Ingredients:

6 medium mackerals, kept whole

For Masala:

1/4 coconut
Mangalore Chilli Masala Powder as required
a pinch of oama ( optional)
10 flakes of garlic
salt to taste

Seasoning :

1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1 medium onion, chopped fine
1 large tomato, chopped
2 green chillies, chopped
1″ piece ginger, chopped
1 curry leaf
2 tbsp coconut oil

Method :

1. Grind all the masala ingredients to a fine paste adding about 1 cup of water.
2. Heat oil. Add mustard seeds. When it pops add the onions, green chillies, tomato, ginger & curry leaves. When the onions are transparent add the ground masala & bring it to a boil. Gently place the fish on the masala & simmer on low flame until thick gravy remains.

You can make it both ways rasa or gassi.
