Potato Puddi Sagle

Potato Puddi Sagle is a typical GSB (Gowd Saraswath Brahmin) dish, commonly prepared in the GSB Konkani households. 

Receipe – Potato Puddi Sagle

Serves 4 people.

1. Baby potatoes 20-30
2. Methi (fenugreek) 1/4 tsp
3. Jeera (cumin seeds) 1/4 tsp
4. Pepper 1/4 tsp
5. Mustard 1/4 tsp
6. Coriander seeds 2 tsp
7. Channa dal 2 tsp
8. Urad dal 4 tsp
9. Red chillies (byadgi) 8-10
10. Salt to taste

For tempering:

11. Tamarind paste 1 spoon
12. Curry leaves 4-5
13. Oil 5 table spoons
14. Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp

Boil baby potatoes, peel the skin and keep aside.

Dry roast the ingredients mentioned in pt 2 to pt 9 above and powder coarsely.

Add salt to the powdered spices and mix well.

In a wok (kadai) heat oil, add 1/2 tsp of mustard, curry leaves. Wait for these to crackle then add baby potatoes.

Stir gently. Add the powered spices, tamarind paste and mix well to evenly coat the powdered spices to the potatoes

Close the wok with a lid for a minute.

Serve hot.
